Violence against women increasing
The National Family Health Survey gives out shocking and embarrassing figures on the extent of violence perpetrated against women in India. In the 15-49 age groups, 35.4 per cent of all women and 40 per cent of married women have experienced physical or sexual violence. Thus, on an average basis, one in three Indian women between the ages 15 and 49 have experienced physical violence. One in ten has experienced sexual violence. Among married women, nearly two in five experience physical or sexual violence by their husband. Seven per cent of them suffer serious injuries.
